August is often hot for camping, but it’s not too hot for members of the Wheeler Dealers Camping Club to gather. Such was the case this August as members met at the Osage Hills State Park for a “meet and eat” with members bringing side dishes to accompany the bratwurst and hot dogs prepared by hosts Mike and Helen McHale, Bartlesville, and Bob and Marilee Nunnallee, Nowata. Several sets of corn hole were set up for members to play.

Members from Bartlesville, Owasso, Ponca City and Nowata gathered for lunch. About 40 members and guests attended. Guests were Maurice and Cathy Casad, Bartlesville; Mark and Annette Corbell’s two granddaughters, Owasso; and Mike and Helen McHale’s daughter and two granddaughters, Bartlesville.

After lunch the business meeting was held with Lowry Blakeburn, president presiding. He reminded members that Clarice and Randi Olsen are creating a booklet with pictures of all members with their rigs and information about their camping experiences. Those who haven’t responded to Clarice and Randi should do so before the next campout.

Other campouts scheduled for the year include:

  • September – Melvern Lake, KS hosted by Cecil and Linda Sparks.  Activities include a tour of the Kansas State Capitol.

  • October – Canton Lake hosted by Charley and Vie Bottger, Lowry and Rebecca Blakeburn, and Jon and Kathy Tippin

  • November – Big Hill Lake, Cherryvale, KS hosted by Cecil and Linda Sparks, Clarence and Karla Hill, and Lee and Ellen Cobb.

  • December – Christmas Party at the McCord Senior Center hosted by Gary and Nancy Shepard.

Wheeler Dealers monthly campouts are held weekends from March to November with only lunch or breakfast gathering in February and August and a special Christmas Party in December. Members can make their own reservations at many of the Corps lakes through recreation.gov, the Corps of Engineers reservation service.

Current members are from Bartlesville, Sand Springs, Tulsa, Nowata, Norman and Ponca City. However, anyone is invited to join.

Persons interested in joining or knowing more about upcoming campouts should contact Lowry, president, at 580-304-5445 in Ponca City or Clarence, vice-president, at 405-612-7781 in Bartlesville.
