COVID-19 claims seven Sandites in five days, active cases declining

While the number of active COVID-19 cases across state of Oklahoma are declining, the number of deaths attributed to the virus are continuing to climb. In the latest numbers from the Oklahoma State Department of Health, active caseload has declined by more than 10,000 in the two weeks since its last peak, but the seven-day rolling death average is at an all-time high of 42.7 per day.

The OSDH reported 1,763 new cases on Monday. The seven-day rolling average is at 2,577, down from a record of 4,256 on January 13th. 1,148 Oklahomans are currently hospitalized, the lowest number since November 9th. 14 new deaths were reported Monday, the lowest single-day total since January 18th, but the seven-day average increased for the seventh-straight day. There are currently 32,546 active cases in Oklahoma, down from a record of 43,163 on January 11th.

There are 279 active cases in Sand Springs, down from a record of 364 on January 18th. 17 new cases were announced Monday. The seven-day average is at 21.3, down from 34.1 on January 13th. 33 Sandites have died from the virus, including seven in the past five days.

There are 3,202 active cases in Tulsa, 1,208 in Broken Arrow, 388 in Owasso, 214 in Sapulpa, 220 in Jenks, and 251 in Bixby. Oklahoma City leads the state with 4,613.

In the weekly report from the Sand Springs Public School District, active cases district wide held at 37, or 0.69% of all staff and students, while quarantines declined from 9.99% to 8.27%. Charles Page High School and Clyde Boyd Middle School continue to be the most effected sites. CPHS has 14 active cases and 90 quarantines, while CBMS has nine active cases and 124 quarantines. Pratt Elementary is seeing its highest numbers thus far, with eight active cases and 138 quarantines, but, in general, elementary sites have been less affected than the middle and high schools.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are reporting 24,876,261 cases nationwide since the pandemic began with 416,010 deaths. The United States continue to rank first in the world in cumulative cases, followed by India with 10,667,736, Brazil with 8,816,254, and Russia with 3,738,690.
