The Charles Page High School varsity golf teams are off to a good start in the 2018 Spring season. University of Denver-committed senior Carson Griggs recently took first place at the Ponca City Invitational, while freshman standout Meghan Charles came in runner-up at the Olive High School Tournament in Sapulpa and third at the Lady Sandite Invitational.

The Lady Sandites placed third at the Olive tournament, anchored by Meghan Charles's score of 86. Emily Charles shot a 99, followed by Cloe Campfield 102, Elizabeth Moore 113, Adele Downey 115, and Sydney Palmer 111.

The Sandite girls hosted their annual tournament at the Canyons at Blackjack Ridge and finished in fourth place. Meghan Charles scored 99, Emily Charles 106, Elizabeth Moore 107, Adele Downey 110, and Sydney Palmer 111.

The varsity boys' team kicked off their year with a fourth-place finish in Ponca City and a team score of 346. Griggs shot a 73, Kyler Gaylor scored 85, J.T. Bristow 91, Nate Campbell 97, and Jared Jenkins 105.

The junior varsity boys also competed in Sapulpa, led by Hunter Rotramel with a score of 90. Chase Smith shot 102, followed by Cameron Smith 105, Nate Campbell 107, Korbyn Cowan 113, and Sam Smith 115 for a team score of 412.

Sand Springs qualifies two for Golf State Championship

The Charles Page High School golf teams failed to qualify for the State Championship as a whole, but two boys placed high enough as individuals to earn their ticket to Stillwater. Not just two boys, but two brothers.

The 6A East Regional was held at Ponca City this year and Carson and Garrett Griggs were among the seven players to qualify as individuals. Carson had the best round of the seven, scoring rounds of 81 and 73. Garrett came in third with rounds of 77 and 82.

Sand Springs has never had a State Champion in Golf, so if one of the Griggs brothers pull it off, they'll notch a special place in the history book.

Carson qualified as a freshman (he's a sophomore now) and placed 30th of 73 last year, coming in right in the middle of the pack with a total score of 161, fourteen strokes behind the Champion.

Weather permitting, the State Tournament will be held at Karsten Creek in Stillwater May 9-10. The girls team did not qualify anyone this year.
