CPHS Softball Preview: Sandites to host Regional Tournament Wednesday

The Sandite Softball team returned 12 players from last year’s Regional Championship team.

The Charles Page High School varsity softball team will be hosting a Regional Tournament for the seventh-straight year Wednesday, and they have won their last five. Enid, Muskogee, and Stillwater will be making the trip to the Sandite Softball Complex.

The Sandites have won seventeen Regional titles overall, and if they win this year they will tie their program-best streak of six in a row from 1992 to 1997. Although they have made it to the State finals more than once, they have yet to bring home the elusive gold ball.

Sand Springs is 23-5 overall and was 10-2 for second place in District 6A-3. They went undefeated at the Broken Arrow Tournament and placed second at the Bixby Tournament. They are coming off a 2-1 loss to Oologah. They have won five shutouts this season, their average game is an 8-3 win, and their longest win streak was eight in a row. Their biggest win was 19-0 against Sapulpa, and their biggest loss was 5-0 to Shawnee.

Enid is 7-22 overall and went 1-10 for last place in District 6A-4. They are riding an eight-game losing streak with one game left before Regionals. The Pacers have won one shutout, their average game is a 7-3 loss, and their longest win streak was four in a row. Their biggest win was 12-0 against Northwest Classen and their biggest loss was 13-0 to Stillwater. They have yet to play Sand Springs this season.

Muskogee is 4-20 overall and was 1-11 for last place in District 6A-3. Their average game is a 10-5 loss, and they are coming off back-to-back defeats. Their biggest win was 24-14 against Sapulpa, and their biggest loss was 18-2 to Jenks. Sand Springs beat the Roughers 16-6 and 11-3 in district play.

Stillwater is 14-13 overall and was 8-4 for third place in District 6A-4. They are riding a three-game losing streak with two more games to play before Regionals. The Pioneers have won four shutouts, their average game is a 5-4 win, and their longest win streak was six in a row. Their biggest win was 13-0 against Enid, and their biggest loss was 12-2 to Sand Springs.

The Sandites haven’t lost to Enid since 2009, Muskogee since 2014, and Stillwater since 2016. The Pioneers managed to steal a game at the 2016 Regional playoff to send Sand Springs to the losers’ bracket, but the Sandites battled back that year and beat the Pioneers in back-to-back rounds on their way to State.

Sand Springs will play Enid Wednesday at noon. Stillwater and Muskogee will play at 2:00 p.m. The losers will play at 4:00 p.m. and the winners will play at 6:00 p.m. Thursday’s games will begin at 12:00 p.m. The tournament is double elimination and only the winner will advance to the State Tournament October 15th at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
