Sandite of the Week: Davon Richardson scores 44 at No. 8 Owasso
/6'4" Charles Page High School sophomore Davon Richardson pulled off one of the most remarkable performances in school history Friday night in Owasso, recording 44 points in a 97-77 loss to the eighth-ranked Rams (17-4, 9-3).
The tally was the first forty-point performance for a Sandite in several years and left his previous career best (24) in the dust.
What's more impressive than the points is how he got them. Only four came from free throws and he scored forty on field goals while shooting 70.8%. He started even hotter than he finished, going 17-of-20 before missing his final four attempts of the night. He also secured three offensive rebounds, five defensive rebounds, and two blocks.
Richardson paced the tenth-ranked Sandites (14-6, 7-5) with nine points in each of the first two periods, eleven in the third, and fifteen in the final stanza. He was 6-of-8 from three-point range with four of those coming in the first few minutes of the fourth quarter. At the rate he was playing he could easily have posted fifty, but came out of the game halfway through the fourth to give the second string minutes.
The Sandites will return to action Tuesday with an 8:00 p.m. home game against Jenks (8-13, 3-9) in their final appearance of the season at the Ed Dubie Field House. They will play Jenks again on Friday the 23rd in the first round of the Regional Playoffs at Putnam City West.
