Meet the Sandites: Dalton Morgan & Michael Ritchey

By: Scott Emigh, Editor-in-Chief

There's 16 days left till the Charles Page varsity wrestling team kicks off the season with a big win over Owasso. This season Sand Springs took runner-up in the Fast Pitch softball State Championship, and is soon to beat the snot out of Bixby for a State Championship in football. Once the hubbub surrounding the gridiron quiets down, it'll be all eyes on the mat as Sand Springs returns one of the greatest squads in school history.

For the next 16 days, we'll be counting down to the first dual and taking a look at our crowded roster of major talent.

Dalton Morgan

  • Junior
  • Weight: 170
  • 2013 Southern Plains Regional Schoolboy Greco-Roman Runner-Up
  • 2013 Southern Plains Regional Schoolboy Freestyle Runner-Up

Morgan hasn't wrestled a lot in the last year, and identifies more as a football player than a wrestler. However, that doesn't mean that he isn't skilled. 2013 was the last year he actively participated in non-scholastic tournaments, and he ran up a 15-8 record that year.

Michael Ritchey

  • Junior
  • Weight: 120
  • 2013 Joe Zamora Junior High Champion
  • 2014 Broken Arrow Cadet Freestyle Runner-Up
  • 2015 US Junior Open Championships Division 5 Runner-Up
  • 2015 Sand Springs Junior Freestyle Runner-Up
  • 2015 USAOK Broken Arrow Junior Freestyle Runner-Up

Ritchey's a stud, but hasn't gotten a whole lot of time on the high school mat due to wrestling around the same weight as State Champion Daton Fix and State Qualifier Jack Karstetter. Those two are expected to move up a bit in weight, though, so this might be Ritchey's chance to get some time on the varsity mat outside of tournaments. Last year Ritchey placed in both the Jerry Billings Tournament and the Jay Hancock Memorial Invitational, and has been jamming all year in non-scholastic tournaments. He's currently sitting at 25-15 for the year with 3 pins and can be expected to put up another winning record this school year.
