State Basketball Tournament and all Spring sports canceled

March 26, 2020—1:30 p.m.—On March 25, the State Superintendent announced that all public schools would remain closed until the end of the academic year for each respective public school. The academic year for schools will end between May 8 and May 15.

In conjunction with this decision the OSSAA Board voted unanimously, at the March 26, 2020 Teleconference Board Meeting, to cancel the State Basketball Tournament for Classes 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A; additionally, all spring activities have been cancelled for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. 

For the purpose of all OSSAA member school activities, all school personnel, including certified, adjunct or volunteer coaches, as well as teachers, directors, or instructors are prohibited from engaging in any type of OSSAA member school activity involving secondary students; no practice, instruction, training, weight lifting, tryouts, competition or travel is permitted.

SUMMER TIME ACTIVITIES: Until further notice, no OSSAA member school activities will be permitted. The timeline for the beginning of summer activities will be provided to member schools at a time when CDC recommendations as well as State and Local government recommendations allow for safe participation.

The Charles Page High School basketball program held its annual Meet the Sandites celebration Tuesday night at the Ed Dubie Field House. Boys and Girls teams from 7th Grade through Varsity were introduced to fans, along with games and performances from the junior high and varsity Cheer teams.

Boys’ Head Coach Eric Savage received a pie in the face from Girls’ Head Coach Joshua Berry after the girls won a contest selling tailgate tickets at a recent football game.

The Sandite Basketball season will officially kick off Tuesday, November 26th with a home game. Junior Varsity Girls will start the night at 4:00 p.m. against Ponca City, followed by JV Boys, Varsity Girls, and Varsity Boys.

The Charles Page High School Cheer Team celebrated seven members on Senior Night Friday prior to the Sandite Football team’s season finale.

Natalie Anderson is the daughter of Jeanette and Joe Anderson. She has been on the varsity team for three years.

Kynsee Champ is the daughter of Colt Champ and Teah and Bobby Mason. She has been on the varsity team for four years.

Raegan Foster is the daughter of Lisa and Alan Foster. She has been on the varsity team for two years.

Sloan Goggin is the daughter of Cherry and Pat Goggin. She has been on the varsity team for four years.

Emily Schlehuber is the daughter of Carrie and Danny Schlehuber. She has been on the varsity team for four years.

Taylor Spencer is the daughter of Brett Spencer and Terry and Jordan Rhoads. She has been on the varsity team for four years.

Coleman Wright is the son of Brian Wright and Mickie Brown. He has been on the varsity team for two years.

Thomas Naugle is the son of Bo and Arron Naugle. He is a three-year varsity linebacker.

Clara Denton is the daughter of Brad and Angela Denton. She wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

James McCrary is the son of Curtis McCrary and Shannon Gardner. He is a two-year varsity linebacker.

Nolan Sensintaffar is the son of Cody and Heather Sensintaffar. He is in 2nd Grade and wants to be either a Velociraptor trainer or NFL legend when he grows up.

Kissing Captain Jerret Haley is a four-year varsity defensive back and is co-captain this year. He is the son of Angela Haley and Justin Orrell, and the grandson of Wade Haley.

Raegan Foster is named Homecoming Queen 2019.

6’1” sophomore Keaton Campbell was 3-28 receiving, 1-8 on punt return, and 2-50 on kick returns Friday against Shawnee.

6’2” sophomore Ty Pennington looks for an open receiver while under pressure from Justin Simpson. Pennington finished the night 13-27-143-0 with one touchdown against Shawnee. He has 7 touchdowns and 0 interceptions this season.

Demetress Beavers was 18-71 rushing for the Wolves.

Flags fly as Bryson Chase shoots for a tackle on Demetress Beavers. The 5’11” junior defensive back accounted for three pass break-ups against Shawnee.

Ty Pennington hands the ball off to 5’10” sophomore Blake Jones. Jones was 1-22 receiving and 21-86 rushing against the Wolves.

6’2” senior Jacob Snodgrass was 6-48 as the Sandites’ leading receiver, and was 5-29 from the wildcat with two rushing touchdowns against Shawnee.

13th-year Head Coach Dustin Kinard improved to 65-69 overall, 42-41 in district action, and 34-28 at home with the 21-19 win over Shawnee. Kinard battled pancreatic cancer last year but announced he was cancer-free prior to the 2019 season.

Junior kicker Zach Heinen is was 3/3 on PATs against Shawnee and is 11/11 in his debut season. He averaged 30 yards per punt and 46 yards per kick.

The Sand Springs Football program celebrated 100 years last Friday night at Memorial Stadium. Football, Cheer, Dance, Band, and Color Guard alumni were invited to tour the locker rooms, dine in the Fine Arts Building, and walk across the field at half time.

Phil James and Michael Bowie were named honorary co-captains and Charles Page Principal Stan Trout performed the coin toss prior to the game.

James was the starting QB from 1973-1975. Bowie played on the Sandite O-Line from 2007-2009 and went on to play on the 2011 Navarro Junior College National Champion team, the 2012 Oklahoma State University Fiesta Bowl Champion team, and the 2015 Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl Champion team. He currently coaches the Sandite O-Line. Trout was a three-year letterman and 1977 graduate.

Jennah Hendricks performed the national anthem prior to the game.

The Class 6A-II No. 11 ranked Charles Page High School varsity football team (1-1) rolled to a 35-0 shutout of No. 15 Putnam City (0-2) Friday at Memorial Stadium.
